Can an ESA+ account pay for a laptop for a Raleigh student?
Yes. Every three years an ESA+ student can get one new desktop or laptop computer and one general-purpose tablet, and the same three-year limit applies to an interactive whiteboard and to headphones. Products are bought through the ClassWallet Marketplace, and technology does not count toward the $500 rule.
One computer, one tablet, one whiteboard and one headphone set every three years.
The Opportunity Scholarship does not pay for devices.
What are the ESA+ rules for devices?
- Frequency: one each of interactive whiteboard, general-purpose tablet, computer and headphones every three years.
- Accessories are allowed once every three years and must be ordered within 30 calendar days of the approved device unless bundled.
- A warranty or service plan is allowed if bought within 30 calendar days of the device order.
- Learning tablets with closed, pre-loaded content count as curriculum and are not subject to the three-year limit.
- Excluded: projectors, phones, TVs, cameras, smart watches and speakers, operating software, Microsoft Office, antivirus, internet or cell service, game consoles, installation, repairs, leased or used items, and sales tax.

How does devices work for a Triangle family?
A Cary or Durham family planning a laptop should place the order early in the school year so the 30-day window for a case, keyboard or warranty does not slip past. Rules apply, and NCSEAA's own guide controls.
