Can ESA+ pay for speech or occupational therapy in Raleigh?
Yes, if the therapist has enrolled with SEAA and is licensed or credentialed for that therapy. ESA+ can pay insurance co-pays or pay for a service once insurance is exhausted, but therapy does not count toward the $500 rule.
Paid to SEAA-enrolled, licensed providers.
Not a tuition cost, so not payable.
What are the ESA+ rules for therapy?
- Only SEAA-enrolled providers who hold a license or credential in their field can be paid.
- Requests must be submitted before the end of the ESA+ school year in which the therapy happened.
- Chiropractic services and out-of-state services are not allowed.
Allowed and not allowed
| ESA+ can pay for | ESA+ cannot pay for |
|---|---|
| Speech, occupational and other licensed therapies | Chiropractic care |
| Insurance co-pays for those therapies | Therapy delivered out of state |
How does therapy work for a Triangle family?
Many Triangle families keep the same private speech or OT provider they already use. Ask that practice whether it is enrolled with SEAA before you schedule sessions on the account.
